Vijay kavalan H1
Vijay kavalan I am indebted to my fans: Vijay
Vijay kavalan He is one star on whom God doused an extra dose of charisma and his films take a great opening and work purely on his larger-than-life image.
Taking a deviation from his formulaic, predictable mass entertainers, his Pongal release Kaavalan is a pure love story aimed at family audiences.
Vijay kavalan There is no doubt that he is a genuine superstar, as Kaavalan which released without any kind of publicity, or television support, opened to 100 percent collection throughout Tamilnadu and overseas including metros like Mumbai.
In this exclusive first-ever interview after the release of Kaavalan, Vijay opens up and about the tough time he had releasing the film.
First and foremost, Congratulations, the way you fought against all odds to release Kaavalan.
Thanks a ton to all my fans and well-wishers for giving Kaavalan an overwhelming response, without their support and prayers it would not have been possible. (Smiles)
Vijay kavalan This must be your first film, which went through so much of trouble. Please comment?
Yes, I cannot deny it. Everyone knows that pressures and problems during release are very common to all films. In my case, each time such a situation arises, I sit and discuss how to resolve it, call the concerned parties and find a solution and amicably settle it. But Kaavalan was a new experience for me. I knew very well that some vested interests were behind the scenes to see that my film did not release for Pongal.
The best part of it is that I never knew who these people were and why they had to remain behind the scene which made it difficult for me to sort out the issues.
But there were rumours doing the rounds that Kaavalan has been pushed to Jan 28th? Don't you think that it would have been a better idea to get a big release than this?
Vijay kavalan First and foremost, Kaavalan was planned for a Pongal release and why should I lose out on the all-important holiday weekend? This 28th date was mere speculation of the so-called vested interests who were spreading the rumour. I was upset that we could not release on Jan 14 th and in most of the southern Tamilnadu it opened only for evening and night shows on 15th. Trust me (Smiles), I was not sure myself on 15th morning 9 am whether my film will release or not.
Vijay kavalan Did you give up your salary for the film?
Well, There is nothing new to it, as I have done it in the past. Money does not excite me and as far as Kaavalan release goes, it was a big battle for me.
And I had a commitment to my fans and the trade, that the film will release for Pongal.
But inspite of all this and zero-publicity, Kaavalan opened big?
I have to thank my fans for it. They waited patiently outside my house, office, lab and theatres to find out the release time. They supported me, stood with me and fought the battle with me. I am indebted to them for this and seeing them smile and giving the film such a huge welcome, I have forgotten all what I went through. It has given me a new energy and morale boost.
Vijay kavalan Kaavalan is definitely one of your best films.Your performance was rocking. What are your favourite scenes in the film?
I simply loved my character Bhoominathan who is innocent and simple at heart. It is a pure love story with an amazing twist. I loved the college scenes, the park scene with Asin and the last 20 minutes of climax. Full credit goes to director Siddique.
In spite of limited screens and losing out on your favourite single screens, Kaavalan is slowly turning into a hit.
I have to thank my fans and family audiences for it. And what touched me is that even fans of other actors are watching my film. And what I have to tell them is like the lyrics in my song: Unnaiyaro Pettirikku Ennaiyaro Pettirikku Aanalum Neeyum Naanum Annan Thambi Than is apt for this.
Vijay kavalan How is Velayudham shaping up?
(Smiles) Super. Director M Raja is a talented director and people have so far seen him only directing his brother. After watching Velayudham, I can guarantee that all heroes in Tamil will want to work with him. Hansika and Genelia are my heroines and the reason why I take on villains is sensible and convincing, which I feel will be the highlight.

Vijay kavalan Vijay steps in to clear Kaavalan!
Vijay kavalan Ilayathalapathy Vijay has personally stepped in to see that his prestigiousKaavalan releases on Pongal day (January 15).
The film has been mired in financial trouble, and it will require a super human effort from the star to bail it out.
Vijay kavalan He has agreed to waive a good part of his salary to see that his fans will be able to see it on Pongal day.
It looks like Shakthi Chidambaram who had claimed that he had purchased the film for Rs 36 Crore , has been dropped from the project!
The blame is being put on him by producer Romesh Babu and others for the overseas distribution rights fiasco.
Vijay kavalan From today (Jan 14) newspaper ads of the film does not carry Shakthi Chidambaram or his banner Cinema Paradise in the credits!
Vijay and other people involved Aascar Ravichandran and Madurai Anbu are working out a deal with guys who have funded the film.
By Friday afternoon once they settle the creditors, prints will be despatched from the lab in Chennai for India domestic market.
Vijay kavalan The overseas release of the film will take place only next week.
Theatres in Chennai , excluding leading multiplexes have started advance booking from Thursday evening once it became clear that film will release.
The multiplexes are clear that they will open booking only after the prints leave the lab.
For Vijay a lot is riding on Kaavalan, including his future political moves. The film carries 'super reports' and the trade feels it has potential to be a super hit.
Vijay kavalan If the film releases on Pongal day and becomes a hit, it will be a fitting answer to his detractors and certain political bigwigs
Vijay kavalan Close To 400/400 Theatres
Vijay kavalan Till last week, the hopes were literally bleak as Sakthi Chidambaram couldn’t get enough screens for releasing the film on Pongal. The never-ending disputes between actor Vijay and theatre owners-distributors were the reason behind such confusions.
Vijay kavalan However Sakthi Chidambaram exerted his uttermost influence to turn the situations favorable. Now we hear that the producer has managed to get more theatres comparatively three times more than the rate of previous week.
Last week, it was evident with trade reports that only 70 theatres have been allocated and now this seems to be a good improvement.
Meanwhile actor Vijay is keeping his fingers crossed for he strongly believes ‘Kaavalan’ will be a delicious treat for the family audiences.
Vijay kavalan for Bogi or Pongal?
Vijay kavalan Vijay’s ‘Kaavalan’ seems to be going through hardest problems as the producers have strived to their best for getting it released for Pongal. Although the buzzes are that it is all due to the preexisting problems between the theatre owners and actor Vijay, it’s obvious only to certain degrees for the actual problem seems to be internal.
Since the project was shifted among three different banners, there seems to be some issues running at high ends between the producers.
The closer sources reveal that a final solution will be brought down and efforts are taken by all means to release the film on either Jan 14 or 15.

Vijay kavalan a hit in Sri Lanka
Vijay kavalan COLOMBO: Tamils in Sri Lanka, including those living in the North and East, are flocking to see ‘Kaavalan’ starring Vijay and Asin, despite a call from the Chennai-based South Indian Film Chamber to boycott films starring the actress.
The boycott was announced after Asin attended the Indian International Film Awards held in Colombo last year, violating the chamber’s request for nonparticipation as it was protesting the “massacre” of Tamil civilians by the Lankan armed forces in the final phase of the war against the LTTE in 2009.
‘Kaavalan’ is running to “full houses” in the Tamil-speaking districts of Trincomalee, Vavuniya, and Batticaloa, and “reasonably well” in Jaffna, theater officials told Express on Tuesday.
In Colombo, it is being shown in all the four theatres of the Cinecity complex, and also in Concord, four times a day. In Jaffna, where it is being shown in two halls, the reception has been somewhat affected by the fact that Dhanush’s ‘Aadukalam’ and Karthi’s ‘Sirutthai’ are competing for patronage.
“People say it is a good film,” said the manager of Nelson cinema in Trincomalee about ‘Kaavalan’. The manager of Vasanthi cinema in Vavuniya said that the film showed promise.
When asked about the “Asin factor”, he said there was no problem. Asin is in fact a well-known star among all Sri Lankans including the Sinhalese. She is featured in advertisements of a popular FM radio station, and hoardings with her picture all over the place in Colombo.
Vijay kavalan makes theatre owners eat their own words
Vijay kavalan impressive performance at the box-office has made the theatre owners to eat their own words, as they had underestimated the movie before its release. The movie, which was released on January 15, is still running full houses in most of the theatres in Tamil Nadu.
Vijay kavalan faced many troubles during the making of the film and while releasing the film. Theatre owners, who were demanding Vijay to to pay 35 % of Sura's loss, threatened him during release that they would not screen the film if he failed to reimburse. They also underestimated the movie stating Vijay's series of flops.
Finally, after Vijay's interference the movie got 350 screens for the release, which is said to be very less considering the actor's earlier releases. Meanwhile, its first week collection was not up to the mark and it received mixed response from the critics. But the movie has done well in the second week, says report.
Vijay kavalan gets much-needed relief
Vijay kavalan Actor Vijay, who is facing a red card from Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association (TNTOA), has got much relief after Tamil Nadu Distributors Association (TNDA) has come forward to support the troubled actor. It has slammed theatre owners for trying to block Kaavalan from its release.
Vijay kavalan Kalaipuli G Sekaran, TNDA chairman, has urged the TNTOA to abide by the rules of the association and follow business ethnics. He has said that profit and loss are two faces of a coin and we cannot point our fingers at one for the loss. Will theatres refund audience money if people complain that the movie is not up to the mark, he questioned.
Vijay kavalan On Thursday, the TNTOA announced that the association will not co-operate Vijay's movies as he has failed to compensate 35% of the loss of his 50th film Sura.
However, Producer Aascar Ravichandran has reportedly convinced the theatre owners in South Tamil Nadu. He is also in talks with other regional exhibitors. As of now, he has managed to get 400 theatres, says a source. However, the Vijay-Asin Thottumkal starrer Kaavalan negative prints are ready and the movie bosses are said to be dispatching abroad by Sunday evening.
Vijay kavalan GREAT RECOGNITION FOR KAAVALAN

kaavalan selected as one of the top 10 movies in 2011.
Vijay kavalan Vijay’s big Pongal release was Siddique’s Kavalan with Asin as his heroine. With this film, Vijay broke away from the masala films he was specializing in, and attempted something different. His experiment worked big time and even managed to silence his severest critics, winning universal acclaim for his sensitive performance.
Kavalan faced more than its fair share of obstacles, but the film gamely smashed its way through them not unlike the way Vijay carelessly mows down the goonda armies of the villain in his films and went on to become a hit.
Vijay kavalan Trade talk: The film made nearly 55 lakhs in the opening weekend itself at Chennai Box Office thanks to Vijay’s fans even though its release was crucially delayed by one day and managed to sustain its momentum all the way to the finish line.
Public opinion: Vijay received a lot of appreciation for this role. In addition to this, viewers absolutely loved the twist in the tale.
