VIJAY IN NANBAN Shankar is all set to release his eagerly awaited multi-starrer Nanban starring Vijay, Jiiva, Ileana, Srikanth and Sathyaraj.

VIJAY IN NANBAN The film is almost complete except for some patchwork and half a song.Nanban is the remake of Raju Hirani’s mega blockbuster 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor and Bomman Irani. The big news is that the Tamil Nanban is now getting dubbed into Telugu.


VIJAY IN NANBAN The producers of the film Gemini Film Circuit (GFC) feel director Shankar by himself has a market in Telugu. Ileana, is the most popular Telugu heroine. Jiiva and Srikanth are known to Andhra audiences, but the films hero Vijay is not a brand in AP.


VIJAY IN NANBAN At a time when Suriya, Vikram, Karthi and other heroes are household names in Andhra through their Tamil films dubbed into Telugu, Vijay’s films do not have a dubbing market in AP.


VIJAY IN NANBAN Now GFC and Shankar is making an effort to promote Vijay in AP and get the audiences to know him better. The buzz is that Vijay’s old films (most of them are Telugu remakes) are being suddenly being dubbed into Telugu.


VIJAY IN NANBAN Vijay’s Aadhi (a remake of Telugu Athanokkade) is now being dubbed into Telugu as Nene Raa Aadi!

Similarly a few other Vijay films will be dubbed into Telugu by GFC “for testing the waters” before Shankar’s Nanban releases in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously on January 14, 2012.

VIJAY IN NANBAN It looks like director Shankar will complete ‘Nanban’ within short span of time, say before Jan-Feb 2012. The crew has already completed working on couple of schedules that was shot across Ooty, Dehradun and Andaman.

VIJAY IN NANBAN Before couple of days, the crew returned from Ooty after shooting few portions and are now back in Chennai. Shankar has planned a week schedule at the indoors of Studios. It was the same place where the huge sets were erected for ‘Enthiran’.

VIJAY IN NANBAN Soon after completing few portions in Chennai, Shankar is planning for some songs to be shot in Spain and other parts of the globe.

VIJAY IN NANBAN It is known that this comedy entertainer is made with a whopping budget of Rs 60 crore. This is going to be a mega budget film in Kollywood, off course its director Shankar’s film. All most all his films are made with a whopping budget and the film too showcases the grandeur and elegance.
VIJAY IN NANBAN Currently the film is shooting at Coimbatore and the lead casts Vijay, Jeeva, Ileana are taking part in this schedule. Nanban music carries a special song which includes the lyrics of 16 languages and director Shankar has shot this song in exotic places around the world.

Of course, the director-cum-producer has directed around ten films so far in his eighteen years career as a director and each film from ‘Gentleman’ to ‘Enthiran’ has been a blockbuster breaking all records.

VIJAY IN NANBAN His forthcoming venture ‘Nanban’ is the official remake of Bollywood blockbuster, ‘3 Idiots.’ But what not many know is that, ‘Nanban’ is the first remake directorial venture of the ace director, Shankar.

VIJAY IN NANBAN The Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that the team flew down to Coimbatore yesterday where some of the key scenes in the film will be shot.

VIJAY IN NANBAN Soon after returning from Swiss, Jiiva flew down to Coimbatore to participate in the Nanban shooting. Director Shankar and team are stationed in Coimbatore where some very important scenes are being canned.
Jiiva, who was busy wrapping up Vandhan Vendran, has joined the Nanban unit and will complete his portions.

VIJAY IN NANBAN One of the highpoints of '3 Idiots' is a romantic encounter between Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the climax, during which they would exchange a passionate kiss. Now that the film is being remade in Tamil, there is a question about retaining the scene.

VIJAY IN NANBAN It is a long liplock scene which was well received by the audience. But it may not be retained in the Tamil version. Even if it is there, it would be shot in a way that you miss it if you blink," sources close to the unit say.

VIJAY IN NANBAN '3 Idiots' is being Tamilised by Shankar as 'Nanban', with Vijay, Srikanth and Jeeva playing the lead roles. Ileana is the heroine, while Sathyaraj plays her father. Music is scored by Harris Jayaraj.

The first schedule was held at Ooty for a shorter while following which the actors in the movie got busy with their other projects. Of course, Vijay had to complete few portions of ‘Velayudham’ while Jeeva went to Mumbai for ‘Vandhan Vendran’.

Meanwhile Shankar and Harris Jayaraj are back from London completing the music composition for remaining songs.

VIJAY IN NANBAN Actor Srikanth is in an extremely important phase in his career and needless to say, he’s taking it seriously. He has been exercising regularly and has lost several kilos to look the part of a college student for his forthcoming film with Shankar, Nanban.

VIJAY IN NANBAN Talking from the film’s sets in Dehradhun, Srikanth says, “Nanban, the remake of 3 idiots, is a big project and has actors like Vijay, Sathyaraj and Jiiva in it. The film will certainly give me a new lease of life in Kollywood. Director Shankar has given me a golden opportunity on a platter and I want to make full use of it.”

VIJAY IN NANBAN The unit is currently shooting the campus scenes in the Forest Reserve Institute (FRI). “The FRI houses several beautiful monuments that were built in 1920. This place looks so much like London!” he says and adds, “Vijay, Jiiva and I will sport two different looks in the film. Shankar did all the homework himself and he’s come out with mind-blowing ideas.”

VIJAY IN NANBAN He continues, “For the part of a college student, I’ve lost several kilos by dieting and hitting the gym regularly. Shankar was clear that I should look very young. But he stressed that I shouldn’t look tired on screen due to the long workout sessions. When I finally saw the outcome in pictures, I was very happy. This is exactly how I look on my driving license! For my role as a wildlife photographer, I will sport a different look.”

VIJAY IN NANBAN Srikanth is glad that he’s got to work with a wonderful team. “I can’t stop gushing about Shankar’s sense of humour. He’s got a serious face but manages to makes us laugh so much! And, Vijay and Jiiva are such wonderful co-stars. I was supposed to work with Jiiva in Drohi, but it somehow didn’t happen. Nanban’s team is very energetic.”

VIJAY IN NANBAN Srikanth celebrated his birthday recently on the sets of Nanban. “Sentimentally, I think shooting on my birthday brings me luck. It was sweet of Shankar and the team to bring in a birthday cake for me. However, I was a little low because I was away from my family and my son, who also celebrated his birthday on the same day!”

VIJAY IN NANBAN On a signing off note, he says, “We’re currently gearing up to shoot the song, All is well…. Though the catch-phrase is the same, Harris sir has come out with a different tune. Shobi master is choreographing the number and Manoj is handling the camera. This song will have Shankar’s touch!”

VIJAY IN NANBAN In the textile city, the ‘mega director’ canned a wedding scene, in which heroine Ileana had to be kidnapped by two protagonists- Jiiva and Srikanth. Sathyaraj, who plays the leading lady’s father, was also present.


VIJAY IN NANBAN The entire shooting spot was brought under a security blanket and everyone who went in was subjected to thorough scanner. “This is to prevent any possible leakage of scenes on the internet,” unit members say.


VIJAY IN NANBAN With Vijay, who plays the role played by Aamir Khan, likely to join the unit in the last week of February, the cast and crew is back in Chennai after successfully completing the first schedule.
