Vijay in 3 idiots It’s a longtime buzz that Shankar, who is eagerly waiting for the release of ‘Enthiran’, will start working on the Tamil and Telugu remakes of ‘3 Idiots’ once the Superstar Rajinikanth starrer hit the screens.
When Shankar was approached to confirm the news, he said that he was in talks for the project. “I can’t speak anything about the project since I am too busy with the release of Enthiran,” he said.

Director Shankar, who is busy promoting his eagerly-awaited film Endhiran - The Robot, has recently spoken about his next project, which is a remake of Bollywood movie 3 Idiots.

Vijay in 3 idiots Shankar says, "I am too busy with Rajinikanth-Aishwarya starrer Endhiran promotions and only after that I can speak about 3 Idiots project.". The Aamir Khan starrer movie, which had garnered over Rs.300 crore at the Box Office, is being remade in Tamil and Telugu.
Speaking about Endhiran, Shankar says that the idea of the film came to him when he decided to make a film on non-living objects. "The Robot is close to human beings. The film dwells on human relationships. It is about seeing ourselves in the mirror.", he added.

Vijay in 3 idiots Shankar, who last directed Rajinikanth in Sivaji - The Boss, has admitted that his first choice was Kamal Hassan. "I wanted to start the film in 2000, but things could not be put in place," he added.

Lauding Aishwarya's efforts, Shankar says that Aish was writing all her Tamil dialogues in English a day before and was coming well prepared to the sets next morning. "She is thorough professional.", the director said.

Shankar, who is known for his grandeur, is going to direct a remake for the first time in his 20-year career. His next movie is tentatively titled '3 Rascals' and here are a few tidbits of the movie.

Titled Three Rascals, the Telugu version will star Mahesh Babu in Amir Khan’s role. The other two heroes are not yet confirmed. Harris Jayaraj will score music. Three Rascals will go to floors in November.
3 Idiots will be remade both in Telugu and Tamil by maverick director Shankar; this is his first direct Telugu film in his 17 year film career. Sources say that Tamil version may have Vijay in the lead role.

He happened to shake hands with the team of 3 Idiots makers (producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, director Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan) as they walked on the red carpet premiere of The Robot. Shankar was reported of getting some tips from the team, as it happens to be the first remake project in Shankar’s career.
Earlier, Shankar had approached Madhavan and Silambarasan to perform the lead roles alongside Vijay. But as they turned down the offer, Shankar has finally confirmed Jeeva and Siddarth for the roles. Shankar’s closer sources report that Jeeva will be enacting Madhavan’s role while Sharman Joshi’s character will be performed by Siddarth. Harris Jayaraj will score music to the lyrics of Vairamuthu and Manoj Paramahamsa has been signed to handle the cinematography.
Shankar has plans of completing the film’s shooting within a span of 6 months as producers want the film to be released in the summer vacations of 2011. But the director is yet to find Miss Idiot.
