Nerruku Ner (Tamil: நேருக்கு நேர் English: Face to Face) is a 1997 Tamil film starring Vijay, Surya in his screen debut,[1] Simran and Kausalya in the lead with Raghuvaran, Shanthi Krishna, Karan, Vivek, Manivannan, Prakash Raj and Dhamu forms an ensemble cast. The film was directed by Vasanth and was produced by director Mani Ratnam with his home production Madras Talkies. This film marked Surya's debut in Tamil cinema. The score and soundtrack, was composed by Deva.

Vijay and surya The story starts off with Raghuvaran, a passport issuing officer and his wife Shanthi Krishna. Raghu tells Shanthi Krishna that he cheated on her with a co-worker when he was in Goa. She immediately leaves for her mother's house. Raghu tries to stop her by apologizing, but in vain. Raghu's brother Vijay and Shanthi's brother Surya meet in a cinema theatre. Vijay blames Shanthi to be the cause of the problem and Surya blames Raghu for the same. They keep on fighting throughout the movie. Meanwhile both the heroes Vijay and Surya find their own girlfriends and fall in love. Vijay is paired with Kausalya while Surya is paired with Simran.
Vijay and surya One day Raghu finds a bundle of cash on his table and meets the person (Karan) who kept the money there. Raghu finds out that Karan is an MLA, wanted by the police. Karan wants to leave the country to escape from the police and he needs a fake passport, since his passport is confiscated by the police; He tells Raghu to get one for him, but Raghu being a sincere officer disagrees and calls the police instead. The MLA gets angry and promises to avenge Raghu. Meanwhile, Raghu and Shanthi Krishna apply for a divorce. Child custody of their daughter Sona (Baby Jennifer), who was in her periamma's (Shanthi's sister's) house when the breakup occurred, is given to the mother by the court.
Vijay and surya One day Surya takes Sona to a fair and somehow loses her. In the confusion that follows, Sona falls from a Ferris-wheel and is taken to the hospital by Vijay. She is brought to Raghu's house, once she recovers. Soon Vijay discovers that Sona has lost her hearing in the accident.
Vijay and surya Some days later Surya finds that Sona is missing... Raghu tells everyone that Sona is in his sister's house. Since Sona's custody is given to the mother, this action of Raghu's is wrong in the eyes of law. So Shanthi and Surya accompanied by a lawyer come to Raghu's house to get Sona back. At that time, Raghu suffers a serious asthma attack, while in the bathroom, and everyone saves him. After recovering Raghu tells that Sona is not in his sister's house, but has been kidnapped by Karan who is out on bail.
Vijay and surya In the turn of events, Raghu issues a fake passport to Karan... But he doesn't want Karan to escape from the police. And the two heroes who join hands for the first time in this movie, make sure that this doesn't happen... They save Sona who is with the MLA's wife and brother-in-law in a van, which is roaming around somewhere in the city; Finally the police arrest the MLA.

Critical Reception
Vijay and surya The film received mixed reviews from the critics. Ganesh Ramachandran, reviewer from Indolink gave the film 4/5, praising the director for non-violent theme with Raghuvaran, Vivek and Manivannan's acting which provide comedy relief.[5] The music director Deva was appreciated for his haunting number.[5] On the other hand, the picturisation of the songswas criticized heavily.[5]
Vijay and surya The technical aspect of the film, K. V. Anand's cinematography, the script and Deva's music was applauded.[3] Performance wise, Raghuvaran and Shanthi Krishna was said "reliably efficient as the brother and sister of Vijay and Suriya respectively". The sond "Manam Virumbuthey" was described as the best song in the film for its picturisation and choreography

Surya's 7aam Arivu beats Vijay's Velayudham at Box Office
Vijay and surya  prestigious 7aam Arivu has beaten Vijay starrer Velayudham at the Tamil Box Office (BO) in its first week. Despite getting mixed reviews, AR Murugadoss directorial movie has successfully managed to rock at the BO.
Vijay and surya Trade reports say that 7aam Arivu has managed to collect Rs. 37 crore plus, whereas Velayudham raked in Rs. 31 crore plus in the first week. Surya's movie had edge over Vijay starrer film because it hit the screens with 1000 prints worldwide. On the other end, Jayam Raja's movie, which was approximately released in 650 theatres, started attracting audience after getting thumbs up from the critics and good word-of-mouth from the viewers.
Vijay and surya It is said that the state government's permission to increase the screenings during the 5-day weekend have helped the producers of both the films to large extent.
Vijay and surya Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan's Ra.One has been pushed to the third position at the Box Office. The South Indian dubbed versions of the Bollywood movie have collected six crore in three days.
Vijay and surya However, the collections of 7aam Arivu are expected to slow down, as the theatre owners are now planning to reduce the number of screenings thereby increasing Velayudham.
